Music from our favorite video games is so catchy, it's not uncommon to hear it in non-typical settings and arrangements. Symphonies from The Legend(s) of Zelda can be digitized into electronic tunes, powerful themes from 8-bit RPGs can be converted into full-scale orchestra pieces, and PC games can provide a good set of tabs for wailing on electric guitars. Speaking of which, we're listing off some of the best game-inspired electric guitar YouTube videos, featuring amateur gamers-slash-musicians doing classic video games proud. These cover songs are some of the best you'll find on the internet, some even better than the originals... Open an ear and get nostalgic.

#10 - Double Dragon M1 Jam by vertexguy

Double Dragon may have been one of the toughest games to beat back in the day, but no one can argue that this cover kicks our asses just by us hearing it.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • 1:32 - The raising of THE HORNS! WOOOOO!

#9 - Final Fantasy VII Battle Theme by metaldaniel03

The guitar skill is impressive by itself, but just look that this guy's face -- it's so earnest, as if he's looking to his viewers for their approval.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • 0:54 - Impressive switch-up on the FFVII Battle Theme's breakdown.

#8 - Corneria by facetotheface

Starfox has always had a great soundtrack, but not too many themes lend themselves to electric guitar -- this cover of Corneria is exactly the sort of music that we'd like to hear in a next-gen sequel.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • 0:30 - A flawless, rapid fire succession of chords leading into the song's 2nd half.

#7 - Metal Gear Solid 2 Theme by BryJovi17

Don't let the dark room and piles of laundry fool you; this guy's rough-but-quick chord work on MGS2 is worth a listen (skip ahead to 0:50 to hear the music -- and skip 1:55 to 2:28 during the intermission).

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • 3:47 - A risky, but well executed finishing series of half notes during the finale.

#6 - F-Zero Big Blue Theme by metalbums

Even though it's a cover, this song comes very close to matching the skill of the guitar musician behind the pulse-pumping GameCube soundtrack for F-Zero GX.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • Well, the whole thing's really quite good, but things heat up a bit at 3:04.

#5 - Castlevania: Stage 1, Vampire Killer by schattenjager

You know, with all the dark artwork and brutal, blood-filled themes inherent to Castlevania, isn't it about time we got a next-gen title with an exclusively electric/metal soundtrack?

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • The perfect timing with the original NES sound effects playing in the background, accompanying the solo.

#4 - Megaman X, Storm Eagle by GodlyJester

Storm Eagle was always one of our favorites here at SlobsofGaming, and this cover brings back great memories of crashing the airport tower that hid an E-Tank and fighting the stage's boss on a rapidly crashing jet.

#3 - Rush of the Wind by bymusicman

Ah, Street Fighter -- perhaps no music is as recognizable around the world, and this lovely guitarist plays a tune that should definitely be featured in an official Capcom product.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • 2:45 - The cover is pristine up to this point, but it reaches a level of untouchable status during this dual handed string of notes.

#2 - Zelda Overworld Theme by CalebElijah

Playing a cover on one guitar is hard enough, but this guy managed to put three different tracks together on this Zelda classic.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • When the guitarist switches instruments to show the melody, bass, and harmony at 0:42 and 1:16.

#1 - Duke Nukem Jam by vertexguy

There was really no argument about it -- we hadn't seen hide nor hair of the next Duke Nukem in forever, so this cover was the closest thing we had to something fresh for the longest time.

    Be sure to look/listen for:
  • 2:44 - The camera zooms in on the best minute of the entire song (also, the music video explodes at the end).

old school castlevania metal ftw. i used to love that series back when it was broken up into stages. something about the symphony of the night doesn't work for me.

I feel weird feelings for the female guitarist in entry #3.
